About the Book
Hate Crimes explores the history of racism, xenophobia, bias motivated crimes, and extremism from sociological and criminal justice perspectives.
The book begins with an historical assessment of race and racism, as well as discrimination of sexual minorities. It assesses how this has been entrenched institutionally within legal and constitutional frameworks, and how it has been addressed over time within the same channels.
The United States criminal justice system is examined through timeline of landmark cases within the Supreme Court. Such cases have helped alter and define the concept of justice and how it is applied.
It then examines the formation and sustenance of organized far right groups and militias, and how the State addresses them. It then focuses on hate crime legislation, hate crime data collection and statistics, and hate crime cases.
Finally, the book assesses the rise and spread of global terrorism, its organizational structure and long term goals, and how terror has become the new face of hate worldwide.
Hate Crimes is more than just a book. It is a timeline in the evolution of power, law and social justice.
