About Dr. Charles Crawford
Charles Crawford attained his PhD in Criminology from Florida State University. He also holds an M.S. in Criminology from Florida State University and a B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Florida.
Dr. Crawford is Professor of Criminal Justice in the Department of Sociology at Western Michigan University. He has also taught at Florida State University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
Courses that he has taught or developed include Introduction to Criminal Justice; Criminology; Sociology of Law Enforcement; Correctional Process; Juvenile Delinquency; Race, Ethnicity, and Justice; Context of Crime and Punishment; Guns, Violence, and American Society; and Race, Policy, and Justice.
He has taken part of in many funded research and consultation projects including 2011 "Identifying drivers of disproportionality in police-initiated stop practices." This was a roundtable on Current Debates, Research Agendas and Strategies to Address Racial Disparities in police-initiated stops in the UK and USA at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York. In 2007 he took part in "Expert Panel Review of the New York City Police Department Firearms Discharge Policies" Rand Corporation, New York City, NY.
Dr. Crawford has published numerous book chapters and refereed journal articles on a wide variety of criminal justice topics. Some of his articles have appeared in the journals Criminology, Police Quarterly, Crime Law and Social Change, Crime Media and Culture, and Police and Society. He is also the editor of Spatial Policing (Carolina Academic Press) and coeditor of Policing and Violence (Prentice Hall).
His most recent publicatons with Landon Elsemere Press include "Public Space and Criminal Justice" and "Collective Behavior and Models of Conflict" with Frank Tridico in Tridico, F., Pellerito, J., Armstrong, J. (2009) Issues in Social Justice. Future publications include co-authoring Critical Issues in Policing (2016).
